5 Signs Your Small Business Website Needs a Refresh

A website that looked great five years ago might be actively costing you customers today. Here are five signs that your current site is doing more harm than good — and what a refreshed site could do for your business.

1. It doesn't work properly on mobile

Over 60% of web traffic now comes from smartphones. If your site is hard to navigate on a phone — small text, buttons that are hard to press, images that don't load — visitors will leave immediately. Google also ranks mobile-friendly sites higher, so a poor mobile experience hurts your SEO too.

2. It looks dated or unprofessional

First impressions happen in under three seconds. If your site looks like it was built in 2012, potential customers will assume your business is behind the times too — even if your actual service is excellent. A clean, modern design instantly builds credibility.

3. It's hard to update

If adding a new photo or changing your opening hours feels like a major project, something's wrong. Your website should be easy to keep current — or better yet, you should have a support plan where someone handles that for you.

4. You're not getting any enquiries from it

A website that doesn't generate enquiries isn't working. This usually comes down to three things: it's not being found on Google, it doesn't give visitors confidence, or it doesn't make it easy enough to get in touch. All three are fixable with the right build.

5. You're embarrassed to share it

This is the most telling sign of all. If you hesitate before sharing your website link — or actively avoid mentioning it — that feeling is telling you something important. Your website should be something you're proud to show people.

  • Mobile-friendly and fast on all devices
  • Clean, modern design that reflects your brand
  • Easy to find on Google with local SEO built in
  • Clear calls to action that turn visitors into customers
  • Ongoing support so it stays up to date
